The importance of Vitamin D

Hi Everyone, this week I wish to highlight the importance of Vitamin D in the wintertime.

From about late March/early April to the end of September, the majority of people should be able to make all the vitamin D they need from sunlight on their skin.

However, due to the significantly reduced natural light we experience in Scotland over the winter months it is recommended by doctors that we take vitamin D from the clocks go back until they go forward again in the spring.

I always knew what vitamin D is for, to help us absorb calcium for healthy teeth, bones and joints which keeps the body healthy. However I guess in the past I have underestimated the importance of it for mental health. I believe I suffered a dip in my mood in the winter months and energy levels would soon follow. Since I started taking vitamin D in the winter months I have not experienced this dip and I seem to sail through the darker months with much more ease than I ever have.

I encourage you to buy some at your local chemist and take them this winter and see if it helps you to feel more like summer in the winter!!

Take Care All

Sally xx
